The first task of the new board is to recruit a further six directors from the private sector across visit, invest, live, work and study. We are moving forward with the plans for our exciting winter campaign. This type of campaign is a first for Edinburgh promoting the rich and diverse lifestyle and retail offering of Scotland's capital city in the lead up to Christmas. Our new member of the team Nick Langan, has been tasked with proactively engaging with key stakeholders to produce engagement plans which will define how we work with our partners. We here at DEMA HQ are saying bon voyage to the Edinburgh Inspiring Capital Clipper yacht as it starts its round the world race this weekend. Edinburgh Visitor Survey After a competitive tendering and interview process, Lynn Jones Research (LJR) has been appointed to carry out the next phase of the Edinburgh Visitor Survey (EVS). This invaluable review of visitor attitudes to their experience in the city has been undertaken every two or three years since 1991, providing an evolving picture of tourism in the city. In the current competitive environment, it is ever more important to understand the profile and behaviour of visitors; to monitor their reaction to all aspects of their stay and to also have readily accessible data, as near to real time as possible. By keeping abreast of our audiences wants and needs we are in a stronger position to make successful investment and marketing decisions for Edinburgh. For more information read the full Edinburgh Visitor Survey article. |
| Tourism in the city The Edinburgh Festivals enjoyed a successful and vibrant summer with record sales for the Fringe (up 21% on last year) and an increase in visitor numbers for the Tattoo, Mela, Book and Jazz festivals. Footfall on the Royal Mile was also up 3.1%. Edinburgh airport had its busiest ever day in its 30 year history on 26 June with 35,899 passengers, as well as enjoying increased passenger numbers in April and May. A new updated route map to show Edinburgh's extensive airline connections is available and can be included in third party websites. Contact kevin_lang@baa.com for more information. With all these success stories for tourism in Edinburgh it is time to celebrate and reward those involved. The VisitScotland Thistle Awards celebrate quality and innovation in tourism businesses in Scotland with the awards ceremony taking place on 23 October 2009.
